Please can someone help?

I have an old PC - AST Research Inc Bravo LC 4/25S 200MB hard drive, 25 processor, 16MB RAM, Creative Labs SoundBlaster 16 PnP Card, LG Electronics 16x max CRD-8160B CD-ROM Drive

I haven't used it for over a year now and turned it on the other day and got this message in the black and white (DOS) screen)

11:01 The computer has lost its setup information. Check the computer's battery then run sys.setup to reset the configuration.

Testing memory.....16MB OK.

Any ideas how to fix this?

The battery that keeps the CMOS (the physical location where the BIOS settings are stored) going has died. To find out what type it is you need to open the case and look on the motherboard. It'll look like alarge watch battry(most often) or two wires running to a fairly regular looking battery. You need the info off the battery for a replacement.

After its replaced you then need to enter BIOS(<del>, <f1>, <f2> or some other key....should say at startup 'Hit Xkey to enter setup' or something along those lines. Then there should be a option to restore default settings somewhere in the setup pages. restore the settings and reboot and you should be back to running.
