I want to reformat C: drive so I can install WinME clean. If I format the drive, won't I lose the driver to make the CD work?
Just wondering before I hit the enter key.

Well, yes, you will loose the driver that lets Windows operate your cd-rom. But you'll also be re-installing Windows, and Windows won't need access to the cd until it's re-installed. DOS will need to access it, and has its own drivers on the standard Windows boot disk.

Some mistakes are too much fun to make only once.
WinME will install from the CD without a DOS driver, no bootdisk needed...it is a bootable CD. So as long as your BIOS supports bootable CDs (and most do now), then all you need to do is set the drive order in BIOS to CD(ATAPI device) first, then C:, then floppy (floppy can be second if you want).

Hi Talk2me ...
While the others are helping with your format and boot questions .... I have a question for you. "Why WinME"? I had that on one of my computers , when it first came out. Had nothing but problems with it. After only a few weeks ... I couldn't wait to get it off my machine and go back to my old trusty standby , Win98SE .
Just curious ..

I had Win95 and a good computer friend of mine suggested I upgrade to Me instead of 98SE. I'll see if he's right or not.

With a clean install of Window's ME, you shouldn't see as many issues as an upgraded version; this is where most of MEs' woes stem from.
I would suggest however, that if you are goiong to spend money on a new Window's OS-go with XP, it rivals even 2k's plug&play capabilities, and 98's user friendliness.
if your only choice is between Me & 98se-stick with 98se, you'll be able to tweak it to a point where you won't have as many issues as you would with ME-and there is a much more extensive database of support for 98se on the web than any other OS to date.
Most of today's modern software was written during the last few years while 98 pretty much ruled the emerging personal desktop boom. So there is a %99 chance that any software you buy will work just fine with it.
