heres my System:
Win 2000
Dell P4 1.7GH
512 RDRAM

software installed:
3dmax
autocadd 2000
to name a few...

problem:
1.Pc usually hangs when i try to open a new document in every application..like that of autocadd and word.
2.theres nothing in "my computer" when i open it.
3.system slow.

done so far:
ive alraedy check the sytem for viruses with my updated NAV.. no virus found.
found a script error and ask me if i want to debug. i think it has something to do with microsoft debugging script. well these are just one of the prob.

is anyone outhere knows the prob of my PC?

thank you.

One of the People who use Win2K regularly will have to tell you what service to enable to correct this..
But it sounds to me Like the enum key ( Or the Win2k equivalent )in the register has been deleted and your system is not refreshing. ( Finding New Hardware)

possible that Ricks on the right track here, insert your 2k CD and choose the repair option when presented with it-this will overwrite/reinstall all you main system files, it's possible that your explorer.exe has been corrupted.

If you have created an ERD before these probelms began occuring, you could also use ot to repair your current system settings.

Post back with some more details on this issue and let us know how it's going.

Thanks Guys!

im afraid i dont have my intallation cd with me. do i have to work out with my registry? oh my, i dnt know how to do this.

what about the slow process? ever since we bought the PC, its not that fast as far as its current system is concerned. we already upgrade it to 512MB but it seems it doesnt change that much.

maybe, DELL has something to do with this.

again... thank you.

I’m not up to speed with win2k.
But I would think that If this is a new system and still covered by warrantee then the manufacturer is the place to call.

You may also want to try using the add new hardware from control panel and let the automatic feature find the installed hardware.

Your device manager should show all installed hardware under the Computer ,
Is the computer listed in device manager?
If so does it have a PLUS + sign next to it?

If it does then click on the plus to see what is listed.

heres some updates:

i already have my re-installation disk with me but i cant see there any "repair" options.

also, i restore my recent clean backup but again it did not solve the problem.

..and again, what causes its system to process too slow, it moves like a pentium 133 or something.. http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/frown.gif

oh my, this computer is killing me.

ERD emergency repair disk.

You create this from the backup console manager. It helps to reinstall yor settings from a crash.

I would suggest you use the CD to do a boot from, then choose the " repair " option when presented with it.

As for the slow responsiveness-do you have it connected to a network? if not, it may still be trying to connect and this is what's causing it to run so slow.

it is possible that your backup is corrupted. You may want to consider a fresh re-install and then backup only the user data you have instead of a complete system backup.
