To create a Restore Point http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/biggrin.gif kfh You and XP don't get along to well together do ya :^)
Access the System Restore Wizard through Help and Support Center. (Click Start, and then click Help and Support. Click Performance and Maintenance, click Using System Restore to undo changes, and then click Run the System Restore Wizard.
Click Create a restore point, and then click Next.
In the Restore point description box, type a name to identify this restore point. System Restore automatically adds to this name the date and time that this Restore Point is created.
To finish creating this restore point, click Create.
To cancel restore point creation and return to the Welcome to System Restore screen, click Back.
To cancel restore point creation and exit the System Restore Wizard, click Cancel.

To view or to return to this restore point, from the Welcome to System Restore screen of the System Restore Wizard select Restore my computer to an earlier time. Then select the date when the restore point was created from the calendar in the Select a Restore Point screen. All of the restore points that were created on the selected date are listed by name in the list box to the right of the calendar http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/biggrin.gif
To set advanced restore options http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/wink.gif
Open Backup. (Click Start, point to All Programs, point to Accessories, point to System Tools, and then click Backup.)
The Backup Utility Wizard starts by default, unless it is disabled.
Click the Advanced Mode button in the Backup Utility Wizard.
Click the Restore and Manage Media menu and select the files to restore.
Click the Start Restore button.
On the Confirm Restore dialog box, click Advanced.
set the restore points you want ??

Hmm Don't know if this will work in your case?
go to the command prompt> type the following commands>pressing ENTER after each command> cd windows
ren favori~1 oldfav
Restart computer the favorites folder & It's default folders should be re-created.You should be able to retrieve your previous favorites by copying the contents of the Oldfav folder to the new Favorites folder Again I do not know if this will work In your case.DO MAKE SURE YOU BACK STUFF UP BEFORE HAND. Good luck!
