Hello everyone, here's another one for you to sort out.....
I've been having some USB device trouble since I built my machine last October. It is based around an Abit KT7A with the VIA Apollo KT133A chipset running a 1.2Ghz Athlon CPU.

After some digging I found an article in the MS knowledge Database about VIA USB controllers and AMD processors over 350Mhz. Well dumb luck! I've got both!!

On this page it had a patch for Win98SE to 'cure' the fault.....I thought I had Win98SE but when I tried to run the patch it said it was not for my version of windows........

According to my system properties I have version 4.10.1998
Is this Win98SE????
Or is it the original version????

Can someone help me as I would like to get my USB devices working properly!!

DAMN! http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/mad.gif I thought I had Win98Se but it turns out it is the First Edition....
It's not an OEM version as the second group of digits on the licence (3 of them) are not OEM as I had on my old WIN95 machine.

Oh well....that explains why the patch wouldnt work and it points me in the right direction for sorting out my USB probs!

Thanks http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/smile.gif

I don't have any USB devices, so I am not sure...but I think that I read that not only does the Customer Service Pack (http://www.microsoft.com/windows98/downloads/default.asp) contain bug fixes for the original 98..it also contains "increased USB support". My understanding is that it takes 98 to 98SE..except for some bells and whistles that came with SE. I watched it install on new puter we're working on..and it looked like it was mostly updating/upgrading IE..but there were other things I wasn't sure about and figure were the bug fixes.

You might check the drivers for your motherboard. Your mobo did come with a disc? Also check your bios for usb being enabled.
