I am trying to find a way a person can determine group members through the OS and not using Outlook address book or the domain controller. For example, create a new share and add a group. This is easily done but, how does one know who the members are within that group without looking up the group in Outlook address book (not always 100% accurate)or looking up the group memberships itself located on the domain controller.

In the share properties one does not have the option to view members of a designated group. Does this seem like BS or is it just me? Is there any reason why a common user should be unable to view group memberships.

Does this make sense? Any Ideas?

I know of no built in tools (GUI or command line) that allow you to view group membership from a computer that isn't a domain controller or if your not a domain admin.

The resource kit for Windows2000 server has the "listmembers.vbs" script which works with AD. Depending on the access rights for the group object it may work for a normal user.
