Greeting all
I need some imput on why Explorer 5.5 +( tools) keeps crashing while browsing. Running 98se

The system reports an error in Module MSHTML.DLL and sometimes RPCRT4.DLL

This happens about every 3 mins mainly while using the "Back" button.
Made a search at MS knowledge base and came away with the following...

(These error messages may be intermittent and are generally associated with using High Color (16-bit) or True Color (24-bit) color settings. )
(The Mshtml.dll file is responsible for image rendering in Internet Explorer. )

System has been Stable for 2 years and have not encountered this before , only addition to software before problems appeared was to get Download Accelerator Plus installed on the system this has now been unistalled but the problem remains.

Runnig ATI All in Wonder Graphics 32MB with latest drivers
so there should be no problem regarding MS error messages
done all the usual things scan disc/defrag/reg clean ect

any ideas please
all replys gratefully received
Thanks in advance

Check your version number on MSHTML.DLL it shooould start with 5.50 and be 5.50.4913.1100 or highr, but not start with a 6.

It is found in the Windows\System directory....right click on it and select properties.

If it is wrong you can try running the IE repair...Add/remove programs MS IE 5.5+tools and select remove, that will give you 3 choices...select Repair. (even if it isn't wrong running the repair tool is a good idea).

Also clean out the Windows\Temp directour and the IE cache (Internet Options -> Temp Internet Files -> Delete).

"cometh the moment cometh the man"

Did the MSHTML,dll check and yes the version numbers were lower than you stated.
pre IE repair 5.50.4807.2300
post IE repair 5.50.4915.500

I hope this has cured the problem , time will tell

Did come across a strange file in c/windows/temp called Trickler 3130 .exe

Have you any ideas what this ? is it safe to delete ?
Only search came up with a type of gun!
