Does anybody know why when booting into safe mode on a networked Win 2k Pro machine it asks for a username and password. Since this computer is networked the obvious thing to do at this point would be to put your network username and password into the boxes provided, right?
Doesnt work. I tried my username and password every which way and no good. I tried administrator with no luck. The same goes for safe mode with command prompt. When the username/password is typed and the enter key pressed it goes back to the blank windows password screen. If I hit cancel it goes back to the blank windows password screen. If I hit options it takes me back to blank windows password screen.
If I try safe mode with networking it works. That's great, but if I truly want to troubleshoot my pc or run a virus utility with the minimum loaded wouldnt I want to just boot into plain old regular safe mode? Maybe there is a perfectly good reason for this, maybe it doesnt matter, maybe I am just going crazy.
Anyways, this all came about because of the W32.Klez.h virus. Directions say to run the FixKlez tool (used to remove the virus) in safe mode.
Thank you in advance for your input
