View Full Version : how do i know if my m/b or cpu is deaD
My pentium pro 200 won't display anything or beebs anymore. i've swapped my video card and ram but to no avail. Is my m/b or cpu is dead. how do i know that?

If you dont get the first "bios & keyboard OK" beep, it is likely the motherboard; however, it is possible that it's the cpu chip ...unfortunately, the only way I know of to isolate which it is ....is to put a known good cpu on the mobo and try it. Since Pentium Pro chips are VERY hard to come by, that might be impossible. You could spend a LOT of time and money trying to get to the bottom of it and be ahead of the game getting a new motherboard (or used) and another socket 7 cpu ...you can probably find a working socket 7 motherboard for about $50 and a 233 or better cpu for about $50.
