I just finished upgrading my computer, and stupidly, didn't think to save off my certificate before I formatted my primary HD and reinstalled Win2k. The encrypted directory was on the secondary HD. I still have all the files that were encrypted. Is there anyway that I can recover them? It's a standalone win2k machine, and I'm the only one with access to it. Thanks!

Just to know, I've tried a number of things, including turning decryption off for the directory, moving files to an unencrypted directory, etc. No joy.

You'll need to move the files to a "FAT" drive. Doing so will remove the encryption.

Gee, Ghost, you did it again... http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

I had a long, very pessimistic (on the chance of recovering the files) reply written out, but held off on posting it because I remembered that there may be a way to do it but just couldn't find it http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/eek.gif. So I'm glad I waited to see what you had to say!

Damn, I wish it was that easy! ;-)

At any rate, I tried moving them, but get an error that the files can't be read.
