I'm not sure if this the right forum to post this topic to. So if it's the wrong one,......go ahead Pete. http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/smile.gif

After i had installed a 8Mb Simm on my 486dx2 and started DOS Himemsys came with an error telling me the Simm was faulty. It did not pass the memory test. This was strange cause i did not receive any beep codes.
Adding or replacing Simms did not show any improvement.

So, could this be a sure fire way of testing Simms???????

It's probably telling you it's the wrong type memory, or it could in fact be faulty. Could also be non parity memory on a system that requires parity.

Himem.sys doesn't use beep codes, once you get to that point in the boot sequence you have video or you would have shut down already, so it uses onscreen error messages.

Check the numbers on the memory chips, the last number should be 6 or 7. That tells you it's 60ns or 70ns. Make sure they're all the same, that could also be the source of the error. Try changing the order if they are different sizes. I think the larger ones should go in the first bank. May be the opposite...

This looks like a good place for this question, so it'll stay here.
