When I click restart on the shut down menu my computer will shut down like it is suppose to, and then for some reason the monitor will shut off and go into stand by mode. The tower stays on and seems as if it is doing what it is suppose to and that is restart. The red busy light will be on like it is re-booting and then goes out when it is done. If I manually turn the monitor on it will display some kind of test screen. If I push restart on the tower the tower will behave like it is re-booting but the monitor will not come on. However, If I try pushing the restart button on the tower several times each time after the red busy light goes out, sometimes the monitor will turn on and the computer will boot up properly. I gave up doing that because it is to aggravating. When the computer is in this state the power button on the tower will not function, if I push it the computer will not turn off. So, when this happens I will shut the switch off on the surge protector and let the computer turn off. I then turn the switch back on, push the power button on the tower, then the computer will boot up normaly as if I had just shut it down through the start menu. Strangely though, sometimes when I click restart on the shut down menu the computer will reboot like it is suppose to, but this is a rare occurrence. This computer would rather do it the hard way!

The computer started doing this after I had reformatted my hard dive and reinstalled windows 95. Now I have windows Me and I still have the same problem. I have a MAG 720 plug & play monitor.

Please Help,
Gene

you might want to try reloading windows, sometimes it takes three of four tries to get a really good load. If this doesn't work try updating your driver for the monitor. You can usually go to the monitors web site and download updated drivers. The drivers that you have are probably old if you had win95 on your system before you loaded WinME. Let me know how it goes.-Dacia-

The Win Me "Upgrade" has a LOT of know problems so I'm not surprised you are having troubles....My very best advice is to return the Win Me upgrade and trade it for a Win 98 SE upgrade.......M U C H more stable.

WinMe does not play well with ACPI and Power Management. The Microsoft Knowledge Base is just chock full of articles about it, and they all boil down to "just say no". You probably have a setting in BIOS setup to disable/enable it, and also in Control Panel > Power Management > Power Schemes make sure you set it to Always On for the Power Scheme and Never for the System standby/Turn off monitor/Turn off hard disks, and then click Apply. Try it and let us know.
