My scanner keeps telling me that i am not at optimum speed and to acces system bios to set i/o mode to epp. I am a newbie. I don't know how can you help me.I need any advice that you can send. Even if that advise is take it to a pro.

Sounds like your scanner is connected to your computer via the printer port. Getting into the bios is a pretty easy thing to do. When you first turn on the computer you should see a message that reads "hit del to enter setup". My wording may be off a little but just hit the delete key and this will get you to the bios menu. If the message disappears before you get the chance to hit the enter key, just restart the computer and try it again.
Once in the bios, the setting you want to change will be the parallel port, or it may be called LPT1. It should be under "Integrated Peripherals". Look for it and you will find it, then change it to the setting you want. Follow the on-screen directions for navigating the menus.
Once you make the change, go to the main menu of the bios and save and exit. If you accidentally change something you didn't mean to, just exit without saving and start over.
I hope this helps.

I have been using Microsoft operating systems since 1984, and couldn't resist trying ME in spite of what I had heard about it. I just think people should not be complicating there lives with it. I gave up using it after just a week. At least the CD has colorful holograms, so I might hang it on the wall.

Thanks for the info I am going to try that this weekend when I have the time to devote to it. As for the ME CD not worth what I paid for it even if the holograms are pretty. you were lucky no one warned me about it. Thanks again. pam203

I did what bluebeard said to do only I couldn't change the bios to epp like it said to. I only had two choices. Optimum or default, I chose optimum but it didn't change any thing. Yes that is how my scanner is set up through the printer. Any other suggestions.
