Failure to copy files from A drive to C drive

I have just taken delivery of a new computer and I wished to copy some data from my back up disk to C drive. I have Windows Millenium and I double clicked on the icon to open the A drive and saw the files in the right hand screen of Windows Explorer. However, when I tried to drag the files to the C drive nothing happened and on one occasion the computer froze and I had to disconnect the electricity to shut it down!

I have heard that my computer may need to be recalled because of "a memory problem". Its worked well until this problem. Am I doing evrything right or does it seem like a computer problem?

Sounds like you did the file copy procedure correctly, but to be sure, did you try to rightclick and hold down the mouse button while dragging the file? When you let go of the mouse on the C: drive destination, you should see a popup menu asking if you want to "Move, Copy, or Create Shortcut Here". That's the way to do it in Win98, so I'm guessing you can still do that in WinME. I suppose it's possible the floppy drive itself is defective, but that's a bit unlikely in a brand new system.

Hard lockups can be caused by faulty memory, so you may indeed have a computer problem. http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/frown.gif

You can also highlight the files you want to transfer, right click, then copy & paste to the new location.

I'll agree with Kim, you might check into the recall matter...
