corrupt file somewhere in C drive

I have a corrupt file somewhere on my computer. Is there a way my computer can locate it to repair it or delete it?

Need more information. How do you know you have a corrupt file? What is happening, or has happened, to alert you to this fact?

What OS are you using? Try to fill us in a little more.

More info please..Are you running any utilities on your machine...ie Norton or MaCaffe.. Win 98 also has some utilites that may help.

Start\Programs\Accessories\System Tools\System Information if sysinfo is there, go to the Tools option in the menu bar and run the System File Checker This will find any corrupt system files.

As for general non-system files, Maybe something like the programs mentioned above might help, or error messages during boot up or when accessing a certain program.

scandisk might also locate corrupt files.

Yeah, scandisk will find corrupt and lost file fragments. How do you know you have a corrupt file anyway? Is it causing a problem?

Big BlueI have found the file it is located in my recycle bin in the Bonzibuddy file >>>showing>>>>http://40001.clickthebutton.com/shopping/index.html>>> but it will not let me dump it from my recycle bin. It says Error Deleting File...Cannot delete CTBResourses...Access is denied. then underneath it also says...Make sure the disk is not full or write-protected and that file is not currently in use. (not that I know of!!!!) what now?

Here's some information that will help you.

SYMPTOMS
========

When you click the "Empty Recycle Bin" link in the Recycle Bin, you may receive
the following error message:

Error Deleting File

Cannot Delete INFO2: Access is denied

Make sure the disk is not full or write-protected and that the file is not
currently in use.

If you then click OK, the Recycle Bin icon on the desktop does not change to
indicate that the Recycle Bin is empty.

CAUSE
=====

This problem can occur if "view as Web Page" is enabled and you use the "Restore
All" link in the Recycle Bin to restore all items, delete an item and then use
the "Empty Recycle Bin" link to delete all items from the Recycle Bin.

RESOLUTION
==========

To work around this problem, restart the computer between the "Restore All" and
the "Empty Recycle Bin" action.

STATUS
======

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed at
the beginning of this article.

That part of the error can be ignored. ( it's just a "canned" Windows responce) The part that is important is the "view as web page " part. Your problem file is a HTML page. So it's possible that the following,

view as Web Page is enabled and you have used the "Restore
All" link in the Recycle Bin to restore all items, then deleted an item (any File) and (after deleting the file) used the "Empty Recycle Bin" to empty items from the Recycle Bin.

Has happened to you. If it has then try this:

restart the computer after using the "Restore All" option.


This should clear the error.

The second most important part is this:

This tell us that this is a "bug" in the Operating System.
