Hello,
I recently installed a Solitaire game on my PC from a CD. I also downloaded a Solitaire game from the internet. I have both icons for each of the games on my desktop, however when I click on either of the icons nothing happens....What should I do?

Hi Stealth,
You don't mention whether or not you can start the program by choosing it from the Start/Accessories/Games/Solitaire menu. If you can, then the shortcuts for the icons are either corrupted or missing. Or, if you cannot, then the Shortcut Targets might be the same for each program.
First thing I would do is check the shortcuts for both icons. Choose an icon, right-click and choose Properties. On the Shortcut tab, check the Target file. This should point to the executable file for that program. If not, find it by using the Find option on the Start menu. Type in sol.exe and tell it to search whatever drive and subfolder that you installed it to. Make a note of the path, for example: C:\Windows\sol.exe or something to that nature. Then, go to the Shortcut properties and make sure the Target reads exactly the same.
In the event that the shortcuts for both the CD installed and the internet downloaded programs point to the same target, you may have to delete one, preferably the CD one, since it will be easier to re-install. Then, when you do reinstall, make sure you choose a different folder than the internet one is installed to. This will change the Target path for that particular program and then both should work fine.
Hope this helps. Post back with your progress.
Cheers,

Also check to see if the .exe file in both programs has the same name. If both are sol.exe your only choice might be to uninstall one. Renaming exe files won't always work. You can try renaming one, and modifying the link according to the above instructions, but renamed exe files aren't likely to work well.

You guys are GREAT !
The icons on the desktop appeared to be corrupt. They work in the programs menu, I'll just use that. Thanks again

If you want the icons back on the desktop you can delete and recreate them, if you know where to find the exe files in Windows Explorer. Right click on the icon and click Delete, OK out. Then open Windows Explorer, browse to the exe file, right click it and click Create Shortcut. It should automatically scroll down to the bottom of the screen where it creates the icon, half-size the window and drag the shortcut to the desktop. You're done. You can also rename the icon and remove the "Shortcut to" part before dragging or afterward. Just right click on the icon and click Rename. If you get a message that says it might not work, try it anyway, you can always delete it and create another one...
Personally, I recommend having as few icons on the desktop as possible, each one is a picture the system has to recreate 60-72 times a second, depending on the refresh rate of the video setup. Tons of icons, wallpaper and backgrounds can slow down your computer noticably. Higher numbers of colors can too. (24 and 32 bit True Color etc...)
