Please help me!, I installed Visual Basic 6.0 successfully on my computer last year, but removed it. Now I'm trying to re-install it again but running into big problem. The screen reads... "Starting Visual Basic 6.0 Setup, Please Wait.... " and then the system locks up and can't end the setup task. I have to completely shut down and re-boot computer.
Last month, I took my computer to services to repair a bad keyboard connection. as result of this.. ended up with a new "used" computer. But, they trasferred the drivers and system data from my old computer to this computer.... everything else works fine except for this setup problem. The system is winNT version 4.0, serv pack 6, 32 MB memory, X86 Uniprocessor Free, drives are FAT, 60 HZ. Please could you help me? Thank you. Emelia

To begin with, that machine is starved for RAM. NT4sp6 on 32mb and now you want to run VB6? Oh boy. Check your pagefile size. Check to see if it's fragmented. Stop/close all applications including everything in the system tray next to the clock, especially any virus scanner, before trying to install.

Get familiar with some of the Microsoft Visual Basic newsgroups, e.g., msnews.public.vb.installation or msnews.public.vb.general.discussion. There's help out there....

Thanks, Yes! I know need more RAM..I have deleted most of my temp files.
Next is to defragment my hard disk..but don't have a defragmenting tool.. Anyhow, I began reading the Troubleshooting Problems in Windows NT 4.0 - support.microsoft.com - Again, thanks.

This is the disk defragmenter most used with WinNT. There is a free version and a pay version. The free version has fewer features but is perfectly adequate.
