Hello..how can I learn what .Cab files are, what they are used for, and how to successfully manipulate them...
I am looking for a Software Primer akin to the hardware book UPGRADING AND REPAIRING PC's that will help me troubleshoot common software problems, amd familiarize me with common software management techniques, and strategies for performance tuning and debugging OSes as they relate to apps.

Thank you for any help you can provide.

I don't know whether this will answer all your questions or not, but try this site:

.cab(short for cabinet) files are similar to zip files. Windows copies them over from the CD onto your harddrive, then opens them up. They contain various files, GIFs, icons, dll, adn help files, in a compressed format.
