I have Direct X 8 installed on a winME computer, but some of my games dont recognize it as a valid version of direct x. I want to downgrade to 7.a can someone give me instructions on how to do that?

Go to My Computer/Control Panel/ADD-Remove Programs......you will see it as an installed item on the listing there.......just click on it to highlight it and then go to the remove option and remove it......THEN, download Direct X 7 from MS or whereever you can find it on the net and install it.

Hopefully, Win Me is set up with the same ADD/Remove programs as Win98 SE...If NOT, wait for someone to post who knows Win Me http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

If I remember correctly you can't uninstall DirectX 8 from an ME system.
There are third party programs that allow you to do it on an 98 system but they warn you not to try it on ME or 2000. The only option you have is to play around with the drivers for your multimedia devices to see if you can correct whatever problem your having.
Update: Here's a link to two sites that claim to have an uninstaller that works with Me. use at your own risk
Directx uninstaller (http://directxbuster.de)
second DX uninstaller (http://www.tweaktown.com/files.shtml#dx)
Good luck http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/smile.gif
