I'm trying to move Eversoft 1st Page 2000* from this PC to my other PC so I can take it to work and do HTML code there. I copied the program on a CD/R, and transferred it over to my other PC. When I opened it, it said "A Required .DLL File, ILDA32.DLL was not found." Doing a search on Google didn't give me any clear answers as there were a multitude of reasons and none to do with Eversoft. This PC has ME on it, and the other one has 98. My questions are:
1.Does 98 not have the required file?
2.How can I get the file to my other PC? (It has no internet connection anymore)
3. Can I dl the file from this one to a floppy and transfer it?

*The home page from Eversoft says that it is a free program and as such may be distibuted freely. The version I have now came with this PC.

Check my site, look for a link to the DLL Archive, it might be there. As usual, I don't have the link in favorites any more when I need it...

You should be able to copy it to a floppy and transfer it, but see if the error message gives you a path to where it should be. It will have to be in the correct folder for it to work. I don't know where ME stores those, with 98 it's C:\WINDOWS or C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM. Some programs also store dll files in their own folders I think...it's probably a dll file that's normally included in one OS and not the other, as far as I know...I could be mistaken.

Thanks Pete. I hope you didn't go to that much trouble finding the answer for me. Because now I have a dif question.
I just installed Mandrake7 (in progress now actually), and I had it get rid of Windows. Is this considered a dirty install? Or did it reformat the drive? And do you think I would be able to use 1st Page 2000 on it. I'm a n00b to Linux so not sure about compatibility with programs.
Thanks for the reference to your site tho. I put it in Fav's for future reference.

Windows software does not run on Linux.
Linux software does not run on Windows.

Some programs have different versions for different plaforms, e.g., Netscape Navigator. But you *still* can't run the Windows version of Netscape on Linux, or vice versa!

Which means you should check for a Linux release of 1st Page (doubtful), or use a Linux HTML editor, or go back to Windows http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/smile.gif

Back to the dll problem.... you could have searched for the dll on the working 1st Page machine, copied it to a floppy and put it on the 2nd machine in the same location. Repeat until all the startup errors go away. Alternately, you could run the 1st Page setup program http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/smile.gif

Good call sled, why didn't I think of that? http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/rolleyes.gif

Fish: Nope, no trouble at all, took about half a second to think of the DLL Archive, and 2 minutes to find out I didn't have it in Favorites...

OK thanks again. I didn't install Linux because of the dll problem btw. I was going to do it anyways. I was just hoping to be able to run 1st Page on it. How the heck do I get to dos in Mandrake7?
I might be reformatting my HD and reinstalling 98, so the help on dll file is still appreciated. Not sure if I like Linux. Anyways I couldn't believe how easy it was to install tho,for anyone looking to try it out.

Why doesn't an apple taste like an orange?
Because it's an apple.

ITS LINUX, FISH, DOS DOES NOT EXIST !!

What does exist is a Bash command shell, on top of which runs an xserver (which provides the graphical user interface capability) with the groovy KDE windows manager your probably using.

What don't you like? The desktop? That's KDE. There are dozens of windows managers for Linux, presenting a variety of functions and styles that Windows can't touch. And KDE itself is very configurable.

Anyway, by now you probably got that harddrive formatted :)

But you'll be baaaaccckkkkk :)

Sleddog,
Are there any HTML Editors you can use with Linux? My main passion is HTML and Java and really would like to be able to do that on here. As far as not liking it, I think it's more unfamiliarity and complexity that makes me feel this way more than the fact that I don't like it. I absolutely hate M$, and if there was a way to do HTML/Java on here I would be willing to keep learning Linux. I agree that it's a great OS.
And no, I haven't reformatted the HD yet. I think I'm going to wait til I'm absolutely certain which I want before I do. But would still like to know how jic. The fact that I didn't know dos wasn't on here kinda tells you my knowledge of Linux doesn't it? http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

There aren't the kind of WYSIWYG editors that are available for Windows, like Frontpage. The one exception is Netscape Composer, a part of the Communicator package. It's most likely installed on your system.

There are a number of text-based editors with various features. Some here: http://freshmeat.net/browse/768/

But Windows HTML editors are in a more advanced state of development (IMO). Time will bring the Linux editors up to speed. Just look at how "young" many of the editors at the above link are.

For me it's one reason why I still use Windows as a desktop OS. *Nothing* for Linux can touch Allaire HomeSite for an HTML editor.

Here's another page:
http://datastore.linux.tucows.com/x11html/off_html.html

(This is my local Tucows mirror -- there may be a faster one nearer you.)

I see there's a Linux version of CoffeeCup -- they make a very respectable Windows HTML editor. Linux CoffeeCup is shareware though, not open source.
