I downloaded a trial version of norton firewall,I did not like it so i went to uninstall it, it started then my comp. froze, had to give it the old 3 finger salute, when it rebooted, the uninstall file for norton was gone, but the prog was still in my comp!!I even tried to download it again to try to reinstall it over the exsisting copy and it wont allow you to do this, there is already a version of so and so...Now I have even downloaded reg cleaner, cant find the firewall,WHAT DO I DO NOW??If anyone can find the answer to this you are the real geeks, cause i have asked a few people and no one can find me the answer

I'm definitley not "in the know" but have you tried doing a file/folder search using *norton* ? Norton is like AOL, it replicates all over your PC and changes settings w/o you knowing it. The best firewall I have found is Zone Alarm. Go to http://www.zonelabs.com and dl the free personal version if you can ever get rid of Norton.

Hi Candyman,

Are you running WIN 98????? If so, the following advice should fix you up. (Pete will be so proud of me)

Boot to an MS-DOS prompt. Once there, type the following:

Scanreg_/restore

Use a space in place of the underscore. You will be presented with a list of at least five backups of your registry. Choose to restore the latest one with a date that is BEFORE the date that you downloaded Norton. You should be good to go after that, since your registry will now have no references to Norton in it.

Cheers,

Big Blue 66

Way too cool Fish...you got to educate me on how to do it (animated gif) and what software is available for someone with no word processor (yet) I want Office 2000 but can't afford the $450 for it now.
Cool http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/smile.gif

BB-Pete's in the Channel now-You guys don't need IRC to chat in the channel, I use the applet window and it works great

Bassvax, how's it goin'? Just right click on the pics and click properties. you'll see http://.... just put that between the ... and you're good to go. I would show you applets and such but that's not allowed here. You can pretty much do it on most animated pics on the web. Have Fun!!! just make sure they aren't too big and don't use too many. I just use 2 or 3 and the cache will let them dl fast for 56k peeps after the first time. http://members.bellatlantic.net/~jstenski/calvin1.gif

bassvax: When yopu post a message look at the left of the screen and check the "Click for Details" for UBB code usage. It gives instructions for linking to images, using the list, bold and italic functions and creating links. Just take it easy on the animations until we hear from Charles, Fish just posted a topic concerning that in Suggestion Box, let's see what happens.

Check Simtel (http://www.simtel.net/) they have a great selection of shareware and freeware downloads, and you should find some good word processors. I've tried a few from time to time and some are pretty good. If you have win95 or 98 you already have Word Pad, which is decent, but nothing to write home about. If it's not there go into Control Panel, Add/Remove Programs and install it, you'll need the windows CD unless you have the cab files stored on your hard drive. Most of the programs available for download won't be much better than Word Pad, but you can look around, try a couple and see.

Also take a look through the additional folders of some of your program CD's, you might already have some goodies tucked away on CD. Just exit the install wizard or turn off autorun, and take a look in Windows Explorer. I've found all kinds of goodies that way.

Thanks Pete & Fish!
I was more interested in just learning how to animate gifs. I understand about download times and such...I did a little reading and the first suggestion was to keep it small otherwise people would end up ignoring it if it takes too long. I like the text answers in the forum for that reason, but I've been thinking of learning this stuff for a while. I'm still lagging on my Korean translation for MJC Half way there though.
Thanks again folks http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/smile.gif

I just run a search for animated gifs and download them off the net, then upload them to Zing (http://www.zing.com)...lots easier and less time consuming than actually creating the things...all I have to do is create a UBB link and paste it into the post...I have a pretty good program on the P-60 but still haven't really gotten good at it...
