When you use the boot disk what exactly does it do?
What type of computer are you using (speed , processor, memory, manucturer and any other info that you know about the problem), what version of Windows? More details will help get you a more specific and quicker response.

When you put in a win98 boot disk it will say starting windows but it doesnt mean windows is on the hard drive if you cant see a C: prompt the drive proberbly hasn't got a patition on it that is formatted properly or no partition at all.
Use the command fdisk at the prompt to create a partition and set it active then reboot and use the command format c: to format the drive before installing your OS

I agree. If the hard dirve was cleaned you have to reformat the entire drive to reinstall windows. I just recently did this because my drive crashed so if you need help post back.

Hard Disk Partitioning and Formatting Procedure (http://www.pcguide.com/proc/setup/hdd.htm) might help. I agree with the above, the drive either has not been partitioned and formatted or an active partition has not been set.
So many idiots, and only six bullets...
