Hello everyone,

I have an end user that is running a win95 machine on an Ethernet LAN. She accesses Excel 97 spreadsheets from a mapped drive. The drive is mapped to my file server. However, instead of accessing and saving them back directly to and from the server, she has to either copy or cut them down to her local drive (ex--desktop). It is only then can she SAVE the changes that she makes. Then she has to transfer the updated copy of the file off of her hard drive back onto the server. Changes can be made working directly from the server, but the changes cannot be saved. ""Document not saved"" is the error that I get when I try to save the file to the server directly.

The shared drive on the server that she is accessing has no controls or restrictions on it. Therefore it is free for anyone how knows the path to save, delete, or change the diol
I am able to work straight from the serverwith the same files on any other PC.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions that anyone has.

Thank You
Troy

OK...[puff,puff] I'm here so let's give it a go.

When your user makes changes to this file, check that a temp file is created in the mapped drive.( it is this temp file that is renamed after the original file is deleted.) Look for and delete all temp files that are located in that folder (disable access to the shared drive before you do this). Also check that the connection to the mapped drive isn't lost during the session.

Can this user function the way you want from another computer? Can you function as Administrator from this computer?
Along with restictions and controls on the shared drive, you have User and Computer controls. Sounds to me like this user or computer has Read only permissions. Does this user have these problems with any other shares?
What OS on the server?
