I've been thrashing around with this problem since December 2000. I converted a large document from Corel WordPerfect Ver. 7.0 to Ms-Word 2000. When I got it the way I wanted it, saved it to hard drive. The next time I brought it up to print it, many things had changed. Page numbers were added, deleted, in the wrong places. Paragraphs were moved. Chapters began in the middle of even-numbered pages, etc.

This is a book which looks fine in WordPerfect. It's possible that converting it to Word left some commands buried in the original which are causing problems.

Any suggestions?

Converting a document from one word processor to another is never a perfect thing, what you describe sounds like classic conversion problems. If you still have an original copy of it you can try the conversion again, or you (most word processing software has some way of showing all the formatting codes) can look at the formatting codes and remove them manually. I have found that the longer the document and more complicated the formatting the more likely for the errors to occur, also breaking it down ito smaller documents (like individual chapters) and converting each one, then reassembling it after the conversion may help.

Another suggestion is to use WordPerfect's export feature and to export it as a Word document.

Have you tried saving it with a different file name?

If you have a scanner. Print the docuement in wordperfect, scan the docuements and save them as a Word document. Make sure the print is clean and the font is not too small (a 12 font general works). Then pull up the scanned document in word. There may be some formatting that you may have to redo, but this has worked for me in the past. http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/smile.gif

If you have accesss to a scanner, print the file in its original Wordperfect format. Scan it and save it as a Word doc. Be sure the font is not too small (a 12 font general works). The format might be a little off or a few misspelled words (due to the scanning), but this is easily fixed. I have done this several times - it generally is faster than working with conversions. http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/smile.gif
