I have a user on the nework that can't print anything from MSWord on any computer other than his default printer. He can print MSExcel from the remote printer but work stops responding. I have ruled out any problem with word at this particular workstation because other users; including myself; have printed from word at this station. When he tries to access print via the file menu word is very sluggish in responding. Excel has no problem. Word did work a couple of times but took about 10 min to send the data. Is this a user profile problem? Or could the user have changed settings? Again Word works fine for other users at the same workstation. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

NT? 2K? Pro?

I'd guess settings were changed, maybe in the spooler or printer properties area.

Here's 2 things to try:

Find the file 'normal.dot' in this users profile folder. Rename it to normal.bak. Try printing from Word again.

Open Word and click on the "tools" menu. Now choose "options" and open the "print" tab. Make sure that "Background printing" is turn off. (This setting will not allow you to work in Word while it's printing.)
