My IE crashes consistantly after typing in a box (such as what I want to search for) and clicking on the GO or SEARCH or whatever button. No error messages, just dies. Ctl-alt-del reports it is not responding. Any other surfing seems to work OK.
It happened immediately after turning off some of the Administrative Services (my attempt to streamline the machine dedicated to video editing - and IE for keeping drivers up to date). I followed guidelines and was carefull not to change the setting of anything I couldn't understand. But changing the setting from Automatic to Manual such things as Fax Service. After I noticed the problem, I manually started all of the services that could possibly have anything to do with it one by one and testing IE. Nothing. I then ran the "repairer" (don't remember what they called it - got it by going to Remove Programs.) It ran and rebooted but did not corrrect the problem. I then uninstalled IE (tho the icon was still on the task bar and was able to open IE---->???) I reinstalled - still broke.
Its IE 5.5, Win2000. Any ideas?
Thanks!
