I am trying to figure out, through the registry, how you get the Windows 98 background screen back. I have a Tiny computer system and one of the techs helped me do it before but unfortunately he no longer works for Tiny. I had to re-format my computer and didn't write down where exactly in the hikey_local user area of the registry that this is done. Tiny's version of Win98 does not allow you to choose this in control panel, display, background. I remember you just have to change the 1st line from for example: 0,0,0,1 to something like 1,0,0,0,. I would appreciate any advice or help anyone is able to give me. Thanks, lopromo

Are you referring to desktop 'wallpaper' or the Windows 'splash screen' (clouds)?

I am refering to the "wallpaper". It's the one where, if you have the full blown version of Win98 SE and you go to Control Panel, Display, and choose the background tab and under the Patterns box you arrown down to the bottom you can choose Windows 98, that desktop screen. It's a darkish blue screen with Microsoft Windows 98 typed in the top right hand corner of the screen. On the same "line" as Miscrosft there is a flag made with red, blue, yellow and lime green boxes. There is a multi colored line extending from the M in Microsoft to just about the off the screen.
I have found the Windows98.htm file but can't figure out where to save it to, so I can go to display in control panel and choose it as a background for my desktop. Like I said in my first message, the tech at Tiny computers had me go to the Hikey_Local Machine or Hikey_Local User area of the registry and just change one number in the first "command" line. Thanks for responding to my question so soon, I didn't expect a reply from anyone so soon. If you would like to see the actual screen i could e-mail tha Windows98.htm file to you if you reply with your e-mail address. Thanks again.

My Windows98.htm file is 1KB and is located in the C:\Windows\Web\Wallpaper folder.
Try copying or moving yours there to see if it then shows up in Patterns.
Make sure you copy the actual file, not a shortcut to it.
