I recently acquired an I.B.M. computer with Windows 2000 and pre-installed Microsoft Office with Publisher 2000.
When I download clipart "on line" from Microsoft "Design Gallery Live", then double click the .cil file, nothing happens, although
according to the Help file, I should see the downloaded files in th "Downloaded Clipart" section of Clipart Gallery.
Can somebody help me with my problem? (where is good old Win3.11 with MS Publisher 2.0? :-)
Thank you,
Fred. http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/wink.gif

I would first download service pack 1 for Office2000. You can get it here:

Service pack 1 (http://office.microsoft.com/downloads/2000/O2kSR1DDL.aspx)

be sure to have your Office2000 cd with you.

After you have installed service pack 1 you can then download and install service pack 2. You can get it here:

Service pack 2 (http://office.microsoft.com/downloads/2000/SP2upd.aspx)

Again be sure to have your Office2000 cd with you and read all instructions before installing.

Good luck http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/smile.gif

Hmmmmm......OK since the easy way didn't work.( it never does but I keep trying http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/smile.gif )

Try this instead. Open explorer and click the "tools" menu and choose "folder options". Now open the "file types" menu and scroll down to "CIL". Highlight and choose "advance". OK now first is there an "open" option. If there is highlight it and choose "edit". Check to see if this line exist in the "application used...." field.

"C:\PROGRA~1\COMMON~1\MICROS~1\Artgalry\cag.exe" "%1"

The line may not be exactly like this one. The most important part is in bold. The rest is simply the path to that "cag" file. ( using the above line as an example the cag file would be found here: C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Artgalry.) Once you know the path you can take a look and see if the file exist or if the file is located eleswhere so you can change the path to point to it using the browse button. ( but write down or copy to the clipboard the current path before you edit it.)

If the path is correct then check that cag.exe" "%1" is the last "command" on the line ( if you can't see the end of the line. Then place your cursor in the field and use the arrow buttons on the keyboard to scroll to the end). This must be there in order for the CIL file to be opened.

If the CIL file isn't listed in the "file types" window. Then you'll proably better off just uninstalling then reinstalling Office2000 clip art by using the "Add/remove" icon in control panel. Then the "add/remove features" button on the Office 2000 install window. edit: you may want to do this step anyway as it will rebuild the artgalry.cag file(where clipart is kept). Be sure you still have all your service packs in case it ask for them.

If the CIL file is listed but the "open" command isn't then click "new" (in the edit window) and type "open" for the "action" and use the browse button to find the path to the CAG.EXE file for the "application used....." field. If anything should go wrong you can always re-edit these lines.

Hope this helps http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/smile.gif
