I have previously sent messages on here regarding mp3 playters (or audio players in general).

I was told by many of the authors to this forum to use winamp player.
Could any one tell me how I can play contious tracks, better known as a playlist by catergorizing by author/genre/artist/album etc?

I can do this with my other player (RealPlayer) but not with Winamp.

You tried window media player 7 it will play mp3s and it has a playlist too. I like it better than real player because real player tries to take over your whole system. Like it starts in system tray and it always starts when you reboot slowing your cpu down. Although you can change this.

At the top left of the Winamp screen is a small icon. Click it and you get a menu. Click Open, browse to the files you want to play. Click the top one to highlight it, hold down [Shift] and click the last file. Click OK (might be Open}.). To pick certain files and not all of them, hold down [Ctrl] and you can skip any files you don't want to play. Winamp will play everything highlighted in a "playlist".

just to point out MusicMatch (http://www.musicmatch.com/) is a FAR superior music app. It does not come along with several pages of bug fixes, it has a record mode, and built in CD creating tool.

It's my default music app but has no complications with other formats such as Real, or Wmp. It does not auto update, and CDDB can be turned on or off. It is FREE.

I like Music Match for ripping, but some of the visualizations for Winamp are awesome...

Milkdrop is my current favorite...I can run it on my secondary monitor, while I use the other one for browsing, etc...

yes, but you can't record with winamp.. can you ?? (which is ripping..for those like me who were unfamiliar with the word .. commonly used by the rest of the world..LOL ) http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/smile.gif

like when playing a song off a CD, you want to add it to your playlist.. MM (http://www.musicmatch.com/) allows you to record (save it from the CD to your music library).

FAST too...

hehe.. for me, if I'm puffin' and listening to music.. visualizations are not on my mind very much.. the MUSIC is.. but I have a screensaver that reacts to all sounds.. it is FABULOUS- never seen anything like it.. soooo pretty.. (but I don't use screensaver much, just for that really.. )

in fact.. it's been awhile.. think I will try it now!>> 19" monitor.. music and a light show..

"Sea_Space" ..lol

No, Winamp doesn't record which is why I use MMJB for that...

And way back when all this MP3 stuff came out, everybody called it ripping http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/smile.gif

In fact, I have a program called Windac that only takes about 10 minutes to make an mp3 from a cd (that's one song)...

wow hired, are we talking about the same thing??

MM, just recently I 'ripped' like (5), three to four minute songs from Blondie CD to my music...took only a bit longer to rip as play time for each.

does this sound right ??

We're talking about the same thing, when I use MMJB it rips at 10X play speed...

I just mentioned Windac (and it's SSSLLLLOOOOWWW speed) to comment on how far along this stuff has come...

Several years ago, windac was the fastest (and one of the only) thing around and made mp3 conversion possible, although extremely inconvenient...

Back then an mp3 collection of 100 songs was AWESOME...right now I have 2gb of music on my hd that I haven't even backed up yet and about 10 full cds of mp3s...and that is a "small" collection compared to some people I know...I miss Napster...

hehe.. I guess my 'timing' was off.. but it did seem pretty fast.

I have 951 songs (mp3's)about 65 hours non-stop without repeat... bunch of cd's.... man Napster was the best.. I miss it allot.

I think my brother took it hardest of all...he is "modamned" (to quote a good friend) and would bring his system over whenever he visited to use and abuse my cable connection for his song collecting needs...

It didn't seem like he slept when he was here and would go home with a hundred songs he didn't have when he arrived...he was a napster fiend, but he's on the patch now so hopefully he'll be ok soon http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/smile.gif
