SQL-92 Standard

I'm writing some DB software using Delphi 4, and it queries an Interbase Database using SQL, but it's giving me errors. Do I have to use an SQL database w/ SQL queries, or does that matter? If there is another method of database programming, would someone please enlighten me because this is rather frustrating. Or, if you know any tips, please tell me. Any help anyone could offer would be appreciated. Thanks,

Interbase does use "SQL".
