When I copy files from CD/Tape/LP onto the temp directory on the hard drive the program seems to get slower and slower and eventually stops at around 10 tracks. If I only do 2 or 3 tracks and then move them out of the temp directory to keep it clear, then the program seems to be OK. This is very annoying and time consuming. Any ideas on why this is happening or how to avoid it?

Hard to answer with so little info provided.

Slow down happening while burning or just copying from source to temp folder?
Defragged recently? Recording method -- track-at-a time or what?

Windows version? Drive mfr, model, speed and internal buffer? DMA setting
in Properties? Installed RAM? Drive is on primary or secondary? Master or slave?

And I thought this would be a simple matter!

When copying from source to temp folder you have no control over speeds. Recording track at a time. Yes I defragged recently (4 weeks ago). Win 98. Freecom Portable CD Writer (external). As for the rest - speed, internal buffer, DMA setting in properties, RAM, primary/secondary and master/slave - I have no idea.

Perhaps I will just continue as I am by only copying a few tracks at a time. Thanks for taking the time to answer though, this is appreciated.

My guess: You are running out of space on the hard drive.

Why are you copying to your hard drive rather than direct from you source to the cd burner? I had a few problems with EZCD until I changed my CDROM for a new one, I then didnt have to copy to the hard drive which slow the process down. So I would suggest that if your CDROM drive is an old one upgrade then your problems will be solved.

Niki,

Try dumping your temp folder after each burn. The safest way is to just use the (Win 98) Start/Programs/Accessories/System Tools/Disk Cleanup and make sure Temp Files is check marked. Another way it to boot to pure DOS and manually delete the contents, but I don't suggest that unless you are comfortable and experienced in doing so. Check out what The Screensavers (http://www.techtv.com/callforhelp/howto/jump/0,23009,2341295,00.html) have to say about doing this.
