View Full Version : Major Internet Problem

I recently downloaded Audio Galaxy.
This program came with something called webHancer.
Well, I got rid of Audio Galaxy and webHancer, and my internet completely stopped working. It wouldn't load pages, it didn't even try! So i went back and reinstalled it, and it worked again. So i checked into this webHancer thing. It's some program that logs clicks and sends results to thier servers without any personal info taken, YA RIGHT! Anyways, I didn't want it. So I uninstalled it again, and my internet didn't work. I was getting quite upset. SO i was doing tests. I reinstalled this webHancer, and it worked again (even with Audio Galaxy uninstalled; they are two seperate programs). Now for the past month, I've contacted the companies website and my ISP for help and no one seems to be able to help me. Here's what happens.
This "whagent" runs in the back and after a while, it will close for no reason. When it closes, any thing i open after it closes (not currently opened windows) that are related to the internet, or use the internet, won't respond.
I looked at logs of FTP programs and IRC, and it shows the same thing, "Unable to find sockets!" or "Unable to create sockets!" when I try to log on to them. But if I open that whagent program again and re-open everything that didn't work, it works!

Can you please help me? It's a bugger to have to keep loading a program all the time to use the internet.

boy, I tell you.. always something!!!

I would go here (http://cexx.org/webhancer.htm), and follow instructions.

edit: or- run msconfig. Go to start, run, type in "msconfig" (without the quotes)> press enter or click "OK"> go to "Start Up TAB"> UNcheck this application- click ok, reboot> it will not be loaded the next time you boot up.

also you could run "sysedit" (the same way as msconfig, except type sysedit- instead of msconfig)

look in autoexec.bat>> see if it is there and rem it. or put ; in front of the line regarding this.

Whoa! Scary stuff this. Thanks, Sea, for the link. My son told me a month ago to go and get the Ad Aware program, but I had forgotten.

you dont understand, if i remove it from the auto start registry, my internet will not work. for some reason, it made it so it has to be running for my internet to work.

im not smart enough to fix that :/

my sound card and USB stuff share the same IRQ, so if i play music while surfing the internet, the music pops a little
damn conflicts http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/tongue.gif
