Whenever I open or close word or excel I get an error message that says "compile error in hidden module: AutoExec" the error box says microsoft visual basic. I can still use the programs fine but that message is getting really annoying. Can anyone help.

Try this click "start",choose "run" and type "winword.exe /a" if Word opens without an error then either your normal.dot file is bad or a macro in your startup folder is bad. In which case try these 2 steps:

First do a "find" on "normal.dot" and rename this file to "normal.old".
Start Word and see if the error is gone.

If this doesn't work then open Word and click "tools" and then "options". Choose "file locations" and make note of where the "startup" folder is located and exit Word. Open Explorer, navigate to the "startup" folder and one at a time remove each macro file to your destop , then restart Word. If Word starts with the same error replace the macro file and move on to the next one. When Word starts without an error then the file that is currently on your desktop is the bad macro. At this point you have 2 choices either debug the macro or simply live without it.
