User receives the following error message ...."OLE server is not registered. Please reinstall it." when accessing an Access database from a shared directory on another machine and then receives a page fault error message immediately kicks the user out of the Access program.
Access has been reinstalled and still the same problem. The file was then saved onto the the user's hard drive and still the same problem. The user is running Windows 98. A different Win98 machine does not have any problem accessing this particular Access file. Any suggestions?
Thanks.

Some things to try.
Turn off any antivirus software.
You may need to reinstall the program which is used to open the embedded OLE object. ( IE: if the OLE object is a word document then Word is the "server" that needs to be reinstalled.)
Uninstall Office, run Regclean, then reinstall Office.
The error your getting means that an external program that opens your OLE object has some bad register entries. (CLSID register settings may be corrupted or missing) So you may have better luck doing searches on that external program and OLE errors.

How can I get a copy of regclean? If I run regclean, how will this affect other programs? Do you think this will take care of that error message and gpf that I've been receiving? Also, how do I get reset CLSID register settings?
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
THanks.

Go here: Regclean (http://www.createwindow.com/wininfo/regclean.htm) for instructions and links to REGCLEAN.
Uninstalling, running Regclean, and then reinstalling Office is the best way to "reset" CLSID register enteries. To do so by hand you'll need to know which "server" (external program) was causing the error.Regclean will delete register entries that do not "link" with an installed program. It's one of the best ways to clean up your registry. I have never had any problems with regclean ,but you should backup your registry before running it. Instructions for doing that are on the web page
These are the only steps I can give you without knowing more about the OLE object which is causing the error.
Hope this helps http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/smile.gif
