Hello,
I recently purchaced a FIC 503+ Motherboard to replace a old DFI P5BVP motherboard. (One of the power FET's shorted, tried a replacement FET with poor results) Anywho, boot up went fine, it correctley found all od my hardware and then went to go to the next step. However, windows had detected a bad DLL file and said it would fix it, it said that it was fixed, and the computer re-booted. It did reboot only to do the exact same thing time after time. Swapping out Hard drives with a known good windows load made no difference at all. I have been told the following may have been the problem (s)

1. Bad motherboard, even if it is new.
2. Jumper settings (but these were checked
by 3 people and verified as correct.
3. That i needed to reformat my hard drive.
I do not wish to do this if at all
possible. If I do have to, could I
reformat a .5 gig drive and then
(if that worked) swap with another
working Hard Drive?

Check the VIA driver version and if needed download the latest from FICFIC Drivers (http://www.fic.com.tw/techsupport/utilities/ficvia.htm). Usually, though, with a new MOBO the best way is to go with a fresh install of Windows.

Thanks mjc,

Well, I have another motherboard on the way, and I will just have to see what happens. As for the last motherboard, i did reload windows. However the reload was from the hard drive itself (I had previously loaded the win98 files on my harddrive, as I was always able to get to a DOS promp if I wanted to during POST. Even with the "Fresh" windows reload, the problem stll was there. So what I am considering, if the new motherboard gives me the same problems, is reformating my small .5 gig harddrive that has nothing on ot that is important and see how that works. If successful, then I should be able to swap with the drive I am currently using. If it does not work I will ask for more help. LOL!
