I need help removing a pop-up box from my desktop when my pc boots. I used add/remove programs to remove some software. Now, when booting, I get a message that says WIN.INI can't locate setup2.exe. Please be sure path is correct or remove the reference to this file. I just want to remove the reference because I don't think the file is needed. How do I get into the WIN.INI files to remove this line from the start-up routine? And if I remove it, will it stop the pop-up boxes without creating any additional problems? Thanks for any info you can give me. JAD

The easiest way to get to and edit win.ini is using MSCONFIG
across the top you will find the tabs for each file you can access
Just click on the win.ini tab.
then the + mark next the first Icon.
you should find it in that folder.
Remove the check mark next to the line that calls setup2.exe

Or you can just use edit or notepad and edit the file.
it is stored in c:\windows\win.ini
This will allow you to the search feature incase the command line is buried deeper in the file.
