The Microsoft Office 97 suite that I used with Windows 95 worked fine. Now that I have upgraded to Windows 98, Word 97 (version SR-2b) gives me the following error message when I try to save any Word 97 documents:
"This program has performed an illegal operation and will be shut down. Winword caused an invalid page fault in module winword.exe at 016f:3002478C".
At the same time, I've had no problem saving (and printing) any PowerPoint, Excel, or WordPad documents from the same Office 97 suite. I've also had no difficulty printing anything from the internet.
The first thing I did was to delete Office 97 and reinstall it. It made no difference.
One adviser suggested deleting the normal.dot file from Word 97. It resides in C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office\Setup. I did this and it made no difference. Then I reinstalled the file but, again, it made no difference.
A second advisor suggested deleting my printer and re-installing it? I haven't tried this yet, but I could?
Any suggestions as to what is causing this and how to remedy it would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Robert H.
