Found on the Win 98 CD in Tools\ResKit\netadmin\snmp\
Use this software to monitor remote connections to computers running Windows 95 or Windows 98 if your network uses Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) system management products for system management.

I wonder if it has a new use under XP...didn't I see that you have updated to XP?

Other than that I haven't found much about it...

Did you also see Services and Contoller App, Generic Host Process, and Application Layer Gateway?

I have: Generic Host Process for Win32 Service, Services and Controller app, SNMP Service, and that's it.

am I missing something??

also, it seems that in winXP you can't get the MTU up to 1492.

and I will need to update the generic NIC drivers that xp put in. (but at least they worked.. only I'm getting 509dwn instead of 711.

not good, but not a big deal- every OS needs to be tweaked out that's part of the fun!

anyway- I'm liking it in "Candy_Land".. heh

No, I was just surprised to see so many XP apps connecting the first time I logged on with XP, and wondered if you saw the same ones.

Never allow SNMP thur your firewall!!!!! (I always close the "snmp" port of 161 TCP and UDP on any firewalls I install.)

It is used to monitor and in some cases control network devices. A hacker can use it to enumerate your systems's resouces and gather other information. The "SNMP" service has always been part of NT but use to be a seperate install. (has that changed with XP ????)

Here's a good site that list the services, what they do, and suggestions on how to configure them.

And just for the fun of it...here's a site that list all the "startup" programs and what they do.
