The problem I am having seem intermitting. I tried to upgrade my RAM to 64 from 16. WHen I inserted the 64RAM chip the system only reads 16RAM. When I tried to load Netscape it informs me that I only have 15MG RAM.
The other problem that I encountered is that now the computer will not come on. The CPU has power but the screen doesn't come on or the HD doesn't turn.
What could I do to correct this problem

Remove the new RAM, it is either not seated properly or it is not compatable with your system. You can try reinstalling it and make sure it seats properly (so the locking tabs lock). If reseating it doesn't work then it probably isn't compatable.

Also try removing the old RAM if you left it in. Especially if it was 72 pin SIMM and the new is 168 pin SDRAM. In many cases they won't work together, and if they do the SIMM's have to be in a certain bank to work at all. That's why you got the 16MB reading is my guess. When I tried it on this machine, which will use both, I discovered the manual had the memory banks printed backward, I added a 64MB SDRAM chip to the existing 16MB SIMM's, and got 40MB total, then 24MB. Put them in the other bank and it worked fine.

Hi,

If it's SDRAM, check your motherboard manual. This sounds just like what happened to me. I tried using a 64mb stick in my machine, but it only read as 16mb. Come to find out, my motherboard was an older model and only recognized 2 clock SDRAM. Most SDRAM on the market today is 4 clock. That might be why yours reads the way it does, too. If your motherboard manual doesn't tell you what you need to know, a call to tech support of the motherboard manufacturer may be in order.

Cheers,
