'Afternoon folks,
Yesterday I was trying to set up a connection for my daughter to get mp3's. I downloaded Morpheus, played with it for an hour, then uninstalled it.
Now every time I try to open a web page in IE5.0, Zone Alarm prompts me for the OK to let Windows Explorer access the internet. If I say no, no web pages can be accessed. What's goin' on?
I figure downloading Morpheus changed some setting or other, but I just can't find it.
Does anyone have an idea? I'm runnin' P3,Win98se,IE5.0.
Thanks in advance.

ZA doesn't seem as robust as it used to. Try doing a full uninstall of ZA the reinstall or you might want to try Sygate. I think I saw on ZA's site something about doing a full uninstall.

Hi Gallaeglagh,
Hi Yoda,
Thanks for the replies. I don't really understand. Why reinstall Zone Alarm? Seems like findin' out why Win. Explorer is tryin' to access the internet and how to stop it would work. Am I missing somethin'?

I wish I had a good answer for "Why". If you follow through with the uninstall you should be good to go. I suspect ZA has been tweaked a bit too much to be compatible with Win XP that problems are creeping up.

Heh, heh. OK. I'm game. I'll uninstall/reinstall and see what happens.

Well, uninstall/reinstall complete.
Same thing. http://community.theunderdogs.org/smiley/misc/icon_confused1.gif
I wonder why I have to let Windows Explorer access the web in order to use Internet Explorer?

Steve, I hesitate to point out the obvious but with a bad install affecting system files like this I would suggest a scanreg /restore.
boot to option 6 "Command Prompt Only" by pressing F8(I'm not on win98 right now, but that should be it) , and at the prompt type:
scanreg /restore
with a space between scanreg and the / symbol.
only go back to the day before the problem occurred.

simple but it works.

oh, by the way- the reason that morpheus residue was doing that was that it was calling windows explorer to look for your "My Shared Folders" where all the files you (would have) downloaded from morpheus live.
You may have had morpheus set to start on boot (an option that morpheus wants to be there)
I got this program a couple of weeks ago and have had no problems with it.. you just need to be really carefull what you allow it to do. (settings)

Thanks again Sea,
Knowing the "How To" is good but knowing the "Why For" is important too.
I appreciate it.
