i had installed a game called " Sims", after which i
installed the expansion for the game which
is "Sims:Living Large".

i installed them in C: at first.
the game run smoothly, everything was fine.
later i decided to change the installation location to
another directory,so i uninstall "Sims" from C: .

after i uninstall it, i found that "Sims:Living Large"
was still in the "add/remove program" in the control panel,
and i was unable to remove it. its supposed to overwrite
"Sims" upon installation, so it should be removed as well.
i therefore installed "Sims" to C: again, hoping to make
a clean uninstallation later on.

after "Sims" was installed, i was able to play with the
"Sims" cd. when i insert the "Sims:Living Large"
cd, it simply ask me if i want to uninstall it. i choose "yes"
but after the uninstallation process, i found that only "Sims"
is uninstalled while "Sims:Living Large" still remain in the
add/remove programs panel, but then i couldn't install it either.
anybody knows wats wrong ??

I think the inadvertent (?) pun in the topic title pretty much sums it up! http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

Very few programs are completely removed from your system when you uninstall them - they almost always leave little bits behind in your registry. Many of them leave a registry key behind that keeps them in your add/remove file list.

I'm pretty sure there's an option in Tweak UI (http://www.microsoft.com/ntworkstation/downloads/PowerToys/Networking/NTTweakUI.asp) that allows you to edit that list (I'm not on my home computer now, so I can't check to be sure). I thinks it's worth the download to try it even if it doesn't solve your problem - it's a neat little toy.

The other option I can think of is, after uninstalling (as best Windows can by itself), give it a little help with a registry cleaner like regcleaner (http://www.webmasterfree.com/regcleaner.html). Use it to remove any bits and pieces left behind by the unistallation process, then try to reinstall the programs. (It's official site is www.jv16.org, (http://www.jv16.org,) but there doesn't seem to be anyone home there...)

Have you tried using System Restore? (Start, Programs, Accessories, System Tools, System Restore) You may be able to restore the system to the date before the Sims were loaded (of course, it will remove other installations you may have done since that date.)

The same thing happened to someone with a non-XP operating system, so I think it shows that the Sims uninstaller is defective.

I've been using Easy Clean by Toni Arts. It's freeware and deletes dead end strings/unnecessary/duplicate files in the registry. I've been using it with win98se for about a year and have had no problems with the program so I feel cofindent in mentioning it here. It's a good alternative to Reg Cleaner.
