Greetings! I have now read the tips for good posting and will not post twice again but I have to now!!! I had replies regarding my problem with my cdrom not reading multimedia files on a disk, and I thank you. Two people thought perhaps I have run into copyright protections in my new system. Can someone tell me where exactly they are located? Is it motherboard programming or Windows? I know for a fact that it is NOT the cdrom and NOT the video card! I am not deluding myself thinking that I may be able to disable them, I am just very curious why now I am unable to read this 1995 disk with all kinds of great multimedia on it. Thanks a bunch!

Not quite sure what your asking is this a CD your trying to reproduce?
A windows 95 CD you want to find the code on?
any activation code's are built into the software or copy-right codes are also built in the software. If you can't read the CD the CD may be old and worn out.

Thanks Yoda74! Could you read my previous post under audio and video troubleshooting? Then you will understand my situation. Thanks!

Some of the protection is hardware based and is built into the circuitry of the drive...DVDs often use this (region codes)...some of it is software based...the particular program used for playback won't allow certain types of files to be played back...and some is a combination of both of them.

If the disk played on the old drive and doesn't on the new one with the same program used for playback I think it may be a hardware scheme. If the playback program has been updated or changed then it may just not support the format or it could be software based. There is also the possibility that this particular drive does not like this particular disk...not an entirely unheard of scenario...

All I want to do is VIEW the files, not copy them or store them. Why can't I do that now? Same cdrom drive, same video card, new mobo. It really irritates me.

So you did not actually get a new cdrom drive?

All that was replaced was the motherboard and processor?

Does the CD dirve work with other disks (do you have any more of this type)?

When the board was replaced was the drive wiped and Windows reinstalled?
