Every once in a while when I open IE I get a message that there was an error and it needs to close. It also asks do I want to report this error.

The few times it has happened I have said yes to report it.

Do you know who I am reporting this to, and what if any of my private info is going with the report.

Are you using the beta version of IE 6?

I don't think I am. In help/about it says version 6.0.2600.000. Is this a beta version? I have no idea.

It just happened agian, I paid a bit more attention this time. Sends the error report to microsoft and may or maynot send my personal info. Like my ip and such.

I dont like the sounds of MAY or MAYNOT so I guess I won't be reporting anymore.

2600 is a final build.

Look here (http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;q276550) for more info on the error reporting tool.

I'd skip the error reporting process as well, Donna. Even if your privacy is not compromised, I doubt you'll see any benefits to sending the reports.

If you're getting errors often, it may be indicative of a problem, though. It's my understanding that version 6.1 is a little more stable and might be worth the upgrade (anyone else know more about this?).

Thanks Chris, I guess at some point I must have installed the error reporting tool, but I'm not comfortable going into the registry to get rid of it so I'll just keep saying no.

I went to windows update, It doesn't give me the option to get version 6.1

I did an IE repair so hope fully it will clear up what ever was wrong.

Thanks for your time,
Donna

The error reporting tool is a "standard" part of IE since at least 5.01 SP1....and here (http://www.ciac.org/ciac/bulletins/m-005.shtml) is how to disable it.
