I can not run scandisk or defrag. When I start either if these, my system doesn't do anything, otherwise my comp. works fine. Can anyone help!!!

I assume that you have tried a couple of times and have rebooted - by any chance do you have Norton System Works or similar? A lot of programs like that disable functions like scandisk and defrag as they have other monitoring and fix components. Usually they will give an error message - but not always.

When in doubt... reboot!

Here's what you can do to get it to Scandisk....see all of those little icons next to where the time is?.......if you will RIGHT click on ea of them (except the horn) you will be able to "disable or exit" them...when you have exited or disabled all of them THEN Scandisk will work and subsequently, so will defrag http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

I'm sorry if I'm stepping on anyone here, but, just my .2 worth. You can try Ctrl+Alt+Del and click End Task on everything EXCEPT Systray and Explorer. And then try it. If that doesn't work, try to run it in Safe Mode.
