A friend of mine is having problems with Norton Antivirus 2000. She was on the internet and the update windows box came up(windows ME) so she clicked yes and it proceeded to download the update. 5 mins later Norton detected a virus and immediately quarantined the file. The computer is now running fine however Norton itself refuses to open. it starts up with windows and does all its scans at the start. It will still scan by right clicking in windows explorer and selecting Scan with antivirus, but the main program wont actually open. The message "This program has created an unhandled exception in the file NAVMAIN.EXE" or something to that effect.
I have done a full scan of the hard drive and no viruses are reported. I also checked the scan logs and couldnt find any report of the program having found a virus. There was a .cab file in the quarantine folder which has now disappeared since i re-installed Norton. The re-install made no differance. However when i initially uninstalled it the uninstall failed. I assumed this was due to a corrupted file within Norton. I decided to reinstall over the old installation. The actual installation went fine but it hasnt solved the problem.
Unfortunately i know little of the specs, Dell 4100 with a pentium III. Ill try to find out more in this regard. Sorry for ranting on but i figure its easiest if ye know as much as possible. http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/frown.gif
