My favorite. W2K is a pure 32bit code software unlike Win9x, too much to be said about that. So any way it is a more stable system meaning you won't have to reboot that often (I leave my system on 24/7 and can go for days without rebooting), less crashes if any, you can pretty much say goodbye to "this program has performed an illegal operation". If you do an upgrade be prepared in having to upgrade your drivers, like your printer or scanner or something to that effect. Don't worry, it'll make you think you can't, but you can. If you have a lot of legacy applications meaning 16bit code software the chances are thay won't work on 2000, maybe. So do what I do, keep 98 (or ME for me) where it is and install 2000 on it's own partition. But I can tell you 2000 is all I ever use even though I have the choise. Don't get me wrong, you can play games I just don't know which ones, I'm not much of a gamer. Any way the installation is pretty simple just like the rest of them. As for your drivers first check and see if you don't already have them on your CD's the drivers came on. They do have multiple drivers meaning one for Win9x, NT, 2000 and so on. Just uninstall the win98 drivers reinstall the 2000 after the operating system is loaded, if you're doing an upgrade. Happy Trails. http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/wink.gif
There is more, I just can't think of them. Oh yea, you will have to choose between FAT32 or NTFS. NTFS is a more secure filing system, You might consider buying a book on 2000. If you leave on win98 you'll want to leave it FAT32 so you can see 2000 when you're on win98.

I run daul boot Win 98SE and 2K Pro. I do this because some things i use 98 for and the rest 2K. I love it. Did not have any driver problems at all, and I have scanner, printer, cd writer, removeable hard drives. I have business so 2K works great for that. I used fat 32 for 2K, I think it works better for me. Now go for it.

I'll keep my 2 cents short and sweet http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/smile.gif
2000 gives me better security and control over my system then 98. 2000 also doesn't crash like 98 does.
However, at home I boot into ME (I would be using 98 if I had installed it, but that's another story) simply because most of the games I have don't like Windows 2000.( or ME for that matter, which is why at home I have ME,2000,and NT. This combo allows me to play all of my games... Yes, life with Microsoft is fun http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/smile.gif )
As for install size....please we're talking Micorsoft remember. http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

Like GH said; i'll throw my 2 cents in also.
I'm a previous die hard fan of W2K; been running one version of NT or another since it first came out ( NT pre-dates 95/98/ME )-when 2000 debutted i immediately went out and got a copy-and until XP, have never thought of looking back! I am still an avid gamer and have come across very few games that would not run in 2000, usually they only needed a little tweaking.
I did run a dual boot with 98/2000 for awhile simply because i had some old legacy 16 bit programs that i needed for work-however once we convinced them to upgrade, i removed the 98 install and strictly went W2K.
Now i'm enamored with NT 5.1 ( commonly called XP )-it offers all the eye candy glamour of 98, with the power of W2K.
As Sea suggested, why not try XP? if you're used to 98-it would be an easier transfer for you.
If not, then once you get W2K, you'll wonder why anybody ever stuck with the 95 clients {98/ME }.
