Greetings. I'm trying to install my son's "Magic School Bus Explores the Solar System" game (by Scholistic and Microsoft) and I get an error that says "This program has performed an illegal operation and will be shut down". The "details" says "_SETUP caused a segment not present fault in module SETUP.EXE at 0014:000000b0" I turned off all background programs in my task manager execpt "systray" and "explorer" when I tried to install. I did a Win98 reinstall. I searched Microsofts' support page and found nothing to help. I tried installing the game on another computer (Win 98 also) and it loaded fine. My system greatly exceeds the games requirements. (I have a 733MHz PIII with 384MB ram.) Anyway, anybody have any thoughts? Thanks

I hate to say this, but format and do fresh install. I fought a like problem for over a week. Back up what you want to keep. After format and fresh install my program worked fine. Welcome to the PC Guide.

You might check your video and audio drivers for updates especially if you changed versions of direct x.

Is this (http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;q186126) somewhere near your prob? I know it is not Groliers that you are installing, but it is another M$ product (lol...not at you...the faults of the mighty M$)

I’ve also seen this error message with one of my kids games.
It was caused by the color depth being set to high.
In my case I had it set to 1024x768 32 bit
The game called for 640x480 256 colors.
It would crash every thing I Installed it .
Also after the program crashed it would refuse to run the install.
O found the temp folder full of the install programs orphaned files.
By deleting the orphaned files. And resetting the video I was able to install the program.

Thanks for the help guys. You really have a good board here. Sorry I didn't get back sooner. I tried everything except the reformat and reinstall. Still have the problem. What I,m trying to decide now is that if I reformat, do I stick with W98 or go to W2000 or XP. Thanks again.
