I am having more problems with my new computer (Windows XP) When I want to spell-check in Outlook Express 6 I get the following window:
"an error accured while the spelling was being checked" but the spellchecker did not even come up. Also, I cannot downsize the Outlook Express6 window. The little box in the right hand top corner changes but the window does not.
I wonder if someone else has these problems?
Any help greatly appreciated.

I have the same problems with Outlook Express 6. Except in mine, You can't even click on the spell check to try to use it. I have been looking around online for help with Win XP problems, but haven't really found anything yet. I'll post back if I find out how to fix any of this.

Howdy
You need to have one of the MS Office products installed in order for the spell checker to work. i.e. Word, Excel, etc.
Did you just upgrade to OE6 or XP?
There is a second link at the bottom of that page to read also.

I had a little more info on this that I can't find at the moment...if I do I will post it
mystified When you point to the box in the middle and it says maximize move your mouse to the bottom right corner and when it changes to the double arrow click and drag the window to the size you want then close it. next time it should open at that size.
edit... here's the other link that I found after I had fixed mine with the first one http://www.dslreports.com/forum/remark,2121326~root=winme~mode=flat

Sea
Don't know what it is...not in my startup (XP Home)
Does it show where it resides in the startup window?
Quick search at the MS Knowledge Base show nothing
I saw that AntiSpy thing mentioned elsewhere but have not checked it out..thanks

What was missing for me was this fileCsapi3t1.dll
It needs to be in the proof folder at this location...
C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\proof
For some reason when I installed MS Works that file did not get copied to that folder. Once I put that file in that folder the spell checker worked
You could do a search for that file on your system and see where it is or open explorer and navigate to the proof folder and see if it's there
good luck

Hi Mystified. Did you get your spell-checker working by following the advice from buck52 or in any other way? I have discovered that if the integration of Office/Word and IE/OE breaks down it is best to uninstall Office/Word from ControlPanel<>AddRemove and then reinstall it rather than just reinstall the previous setup. So if your spelling is still "suffering" you could maybe try that. http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/tongue.gif

I did not get my spell checker working yet. Phoned the store where I got the computer and they could not help me. hmmmm. I told them about installing or re-installing my word, but he thought I might be better off living without it. Since I had problems with installing stuff before and had to have the harddrive wiped clean already once (I bought the computer last December) I opted to leave well enough alone. Maybe if I get really brave I'll try it. Thanks very much for your interest.

First off, I do realize that this is a old thread, but thought I would enlighten others on how I fixed my problem relating to this situation.
Ever since I installed XP, I lost the ability to spell check in OE. It worked fine in Windows 98 though.
And I do have Microsoft Word 97 installed.
I uninstalled Word 97 and reinstalled. No go. Uninstalled it again and reinstalled it the XP directory. Still a no go.
Not matter what I did, I couldn't get it working. Went to Microsoft support. No help there.
Started checking the file Csapi3t1.dll to to make sure that it was in it's proper place.
Just a shot in the dark, I copied it to my OE directory on my XP drive and and bang, it worked.
So for future referance, Csapi3t1.dll has to be located in the following directories:
drive:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Proof and drive:\Program Files\Outlook Express
Hope this helps someone. :)
