yeah, "uh-oh" is right...

Windows reconizes my serial(COM) mouse, but it doesnt seem to move. It didnt even reconize it before I put in a card(I used On-board), so now it is COM3 that the mouse uses. Ive been trying to fix it for months...and using the keyboard is extremely frusterating http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/mad.gif.

Anymore info you need to know? Ill be happy to tell ya...just as long as I get it fixed.

PS: I know this has prob been posted before, but I figured starting my own thread would be better.

Start with the basics, are there any conflicts in device manager? (Control Panel -> System). Is the add-in card configured correctly (Com3 should be IRQ4 address 03E8h)? These settings are usually selected by a jumper on the card. Is the mouse configured to use those settings (should also be in Control Panel -> Mouse)?

COM1 and COM3 use the same IRQ (4). You have an IRQ conflict. Why isn't it using the onboard COM port? That's COM1, and usually works fine for the mouse.

If you have to use the card for some reason, go into Device Manager and reassign COM3 to a different IRQ. Make sure the one you assign it to is open before you do..

I tried both of those...none of them worked. But I know windows is detecting it because if I dont have it plugged in when I sart up it gives an error saying that there is no mouse plugged in, but if I have one plugged into COM3 it doesnt give that error. But if I plug it into COM 1 or 2 it gives that error.

I tried taking my computer apart and tearing the frame so I can plug in a PS/2 mouse(part of the fame is covering teh hole)...I should have loked at it first, im gonna need some tools to cut this thing(its steel). But it wasnt a total loss, I got my video card fixed(Textures in some games, such as half-life, came out white) and my sound doesnt come out staticy every once in awhile. But as soon as I get a mouse everything will be completely fixed(except of course the COM ports...but I rarely use them)
