Tried posting this once before, didn't appear, must have messed it up.
A friend of mine has just set up my computer for me (because he knows more about these things than I do). It started as an 8 gig hard drive, but since he did whatever it was that he did with it, it is now only reading as a 2 gig. He cannot remember or fix whatever it was he did, so I am stuck with a 2 gig hard drive. He tried to run Fdisk on it, but that only allowed him to make a maximum size drive of 2 gig on it. It is not the greatest system in the world ( pentium 233 mhz, 8 gig hdd, 128 ram ), but I would like to have my extra 6 gig back please. Any advice on this missing 6 gig would be gratefully received. Many Thanks in advance.

Sounds like he went with FAT16 when he partitioned it...FAT16 doesn't support partitions larger than 2gb, but it still should have given you 4 2gb partitions...what OS are you using?

There could be something physically wrong with the drive...give some more details...

As I explained, I am not all that clever with computer jargon, so i will ask my mate for more of the technical details and post them here tomorrow evening, as we are now in the early hours of the morning over here in Wales. Thanks for your reply hiredgoonz, much appreciated.

Dont worry, all you have to do is delete the partitions and start over,Your lost 6 gigs should magically reappear. All you do then is to repartition your hard drive.Hope this helps, happened to me some time ago.

You need to read about disk partitioning and formatting:
http://www.pcguide.com/ref/hdd/file/prog.htm

It would help to know what O/S your are using.

Hope you have all the original distribution software http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/eek.gif

Re- more details about this system. It is running on Windows `95, and I think it is version 4.
